Carbon dioxide behaves awkwardly under compression - it liquefies at pressures the machine is working at, and it attacks elastomers that handle air without complaint. A CO2 compressor is built around both facts, with compatible seals and a gas path that copes with the phase change. Beverage carbonation, dry ice production, fire-suppression cylinder filling and food-grade CO2 recovery all run on this equipment.
Gas compression is specified, not picked off a shelf: the gas, the inlet pressure, the discharge pressure and the duty cycle decide the machine.
